"Duel of the Titans"
The Kiel Regatta of 1910
by the renowned marine artist,
John Mecray.
... a duel between
two great ships
or
two great nations !
It was 1910,

the world was at relative peace,

and the wealthy and royal were waging battles through sport.

The Winning Ship depicted was New York Yacht Club's entry: Westward

At the Kiel Regatta in June, Westward handily won the Emperor's Cup in a four-race series during which the Kaiser's Meteor IV suffered a broken bowsprit in a collision with Westward when the indomitable Barr refused to give way.
